After a promising forecast of some lying snow I was back for another visit after only a month and started from Gale Road car park. When I arrived the fells suddenly misted over and I sat in the car for half an hour, but it then cleared and turned into very pleasant late afternoon walk. Ten minutes up the path is this monument to Edward Hawell and his son, Joseph, who were two shepherds who lived in Lonscale in the 19th Century.
