We decided not to re-ascend Sca Fell but instead hacked across the side of the fell and found one of the paths descending from the summit. As with the descent to Slight Side the going was very rocky and slow. It took us an hour to reach the path and we began descending the fell in failing light as the sun went down behind the Pillar ridge opposite. We could see the lights of Wasdale Head as we came over the brow of the fell but it would take us another two hours to get home, the last 90 minutes with torches.
