Hallin Fell, beautifully situated overlooking a curve of Ullswater and commanding unrivalled views of the lovely secluded hinterland of Martindale, . . . . .

15.10 Hallin Fell may be small but the summit cairn is huge.

The man who built the summit cairn . . erected for himself a permanent memorial. This 12' obelsik, a landmark for miles around, is a massive structure of squared and prepared stone.

  15.18 Panorama 191 Martindale

The bird's eye view of Ullswater is dramatic, but the classic scene unfolded is an intimate one of green fields and steep fells, the Martindale district, for which this is the best viewpoint.
The panorama is good considering the modest elevation.
